Abstract:After Zhu Di moved the capital of Ming Dynasty from Nanjing to Beijing, Nanjing played a less important political role, even though it still kept a complete bureaucrat system as before. The officials in Nanjing seemed to have a less bright political future than those in Beijing. Nevertheless, there were some Beijing officials requested to serve in Nanjing. Their excuses varied from person to person, but mostly were not their true thoughts. After a careful study of the strange political phenomenon “requesting to serve in Nanjing”, we found that Nanjing gave some officials a leeway, especially those who felt at a loss in their official career. The officials serving in Nanjing in Ming Dynasty had important status in official history.
